Leading innovator Vita 34 expands business

Biotech company from Leipzig accompanies set-up of stem cell bank in Yinchuan

Vita 34 and the Chinese technology company AVIC Biology plan to set up a stem cell bank in Yinchuan together according to German quality standards. The CEO of Vita 34 AG, Dr André Gerth, and the CEO of AVIC Biology, Wang Hualin, have signed the corresponding cooperation treaty. Vita 34 AG, the most experienced and largest stem cell bank in the German-speaking countries and second-largest cord blood bank in Europe, con-tinues to expand internationally. In the province of Ningxia, Vita 34 starts a collaboration with the Chinese technology company AVIC Biology Co., Ltd.

The origin of this collaboration is an inquiry of AVIC Biology sent to Cord Blood Europe, the European association of private cord blood banks. AVIC Biology was searching for a competent partner to set up a stem cell bank.

Since spring 2015, talks were held with the Chinese company. In the presence of the Saxon State Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport, Mr Martin Dulig, Vita 34 signed a letter of intent in May 2015 and thus the basis of the current treaty on the transfer of technology. Intensive talks and many reciprocal visits convinced AVIC Biology of the expertise and excellent quality of the Saxon bio-tech company.

The collaboration aims at setting up a laboratory for the preparation and cryo-preservation of stem cells from umbilical cord blood. The laboratory is to comply with the highest medical quality standards and will provide the possibility of private storage for patients and their family members as well as the option of public donation.

Vita 34 delivers the complete expertise for establishing the stem cell bank, including not only technical equipment and assistance, but also the training of the local employees. They can thus make sure that the reliable processes, which have been developed and optimized constantly in Leipzig since 1997, can be transferred and adapted. Vita 34 will advise and assist AVIC Biology with its experience and expert knowledge during the planning and implementation period as well as in the operation of the cord blood bank.

AVIC Biology is one of the leading Chinese corporations in stem cell research. “We are very glad that we found a strong and experienced partner in AVIC Biology to open up the stem cell market in China”, explains Dr André Gerth. AVIC Biology Co., Ltd is part of the AVIC Capital Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China. Aviation Industry Corporation of China is a state-owned Chinese aviation company and one of the largest diversified groups in the world.

By means of this cooperation treaty, Vita 34 takes another important step within the scope of the in-ternational expansion strategy and operates in the field of stem cell banking now also in China, the largest economy in the world.
